Writing Coach

Tes

I bring play and discovery into the exploration of what it means to write. How deep can you go in the heart? Can you be wide like the desert? How much will you risk? I have worked with hundreds of students, both individually and in the classroom—at NYU, The New School, and in writing workshops. To learn more about my philosophy, read what I wrote for Poets & Writers.

Here is what people say about working with me:

"Erika's teaching marries play and discipline—we experimented with voice and tone like sugar-high kids in science class, while excavating the tense relationship between the writer and his/her subject matter like the grown-ups we still dream of being.” - Maud D.

"Generous with her knowledge and with her astute observations of my work, Erika taught me that good writing is not merely pretty prose. She pushed me to ask ‘What's at stake here?’—a question I still repeat to myself each time I sit down to write." -Isabelle F.

“Erika taught me that there's nothing wrong in writing, but there are things to consider. This liberated me from the ‘it must be PERFECT’ syndrome that crippled me from sharing my writing, writing and even the thought of writing.” - Anjanette L.
